An early 20th century pine blanket box
French in origin and dating between 1900-1920
Unique in its large size, creating an impact in the space in which it sits. An abundance of historic woodworm which had many a party in the past. This is one of the charms of French furniture. It had a use, served a purpose and shows age and character which cannot be replicated with modern pieces
All original hardware is present. Feet have been added most likely to keep it off the floor to prevent rot
Oversized, almost unnecessary in scale but something you need in life

The cupboard is from the later part of the century with adaptions and repairs made throughout its life. Primarily original timber and hardware still present
The most probable original use would have been a form of wardrobe, likely painted. Its current use of a shelved interior is most practical in todays home

The cupboard has its original finish, worn away during a century or more worth of use
This cupboard is unique for one particular reason. Whilst in a farmhouse pantry, the resident mouse, let’s call him Jerry, decided to take up residence. An open doorway in the lower region of its frontage and a familiar scene at the rear.
Unfortunately, due to rent arrears, Jerry was evicted -

A scumble painted finish is the bottom layer followed by an early 20th century dark paint and stain. Following the course of time, naturally the finish has worn, blisters in the top coat, tones of green subtly show when the light hits
You could say over designed. From the top, a multi layered cornice followed by a panelled door, flanked by a pair of coordinating panels. Internally, a pair of tongue and grooved shelves aid ease of storage. A healthy sized beaded drawer sits in a protrusive lower section beneath the main cupboard, giving an authoritarian standing

Classic farmhouse aesthetic. A pair of drawers over a cupboard with a full width shelved interior. A slightly oversized top adds visual interest whilst white ceramic knobs soften the image of the piece as a whole
The cupboard has likely sat by a window, sun gazing for many years. This in turn lightens the colour of the timber, giving an almost naturally occurring bleached effect

Likely an estate made piece of furniture. Originally, there would have been a pair of doors on the upper half but these were removed most probably during the late Victorian era when open top dressers become popular
Abundant in rustic charm and repairs over its two centuries lifespan. Most of the original ironwork is still present. Showcasing the skills and talents of craftsmen of their time. Back in an era before mass production and making a piece of furniture beautiful for no other reason than they could….

French in origin. From the early part of the fourth quarter of the 19th century
Interestingly, this would have been used to store the coins paid by citizens for their taxes. This is evident through the coin slot and the small drawer. Internally, an oversized lock is still present which would have deterred any potential thieves
More than likely, this piece was a buffet and was converted for use. Predominantly, desks of this style are more commonly seen
