George II era oak chest of drawers
Dating from around the mid 18th century, c.1740-1760
Of that period, constructed using oak, cottage cut design enabling easy manoeuvrability in those tight cottage spaces. A time before dovetail joints or screws. Simple dowels and nails to piece it together. Standing the test of time 260+ years later
Relatively untouched. The original timbers appear to be present, other than some modern timber added to the underside runners of the drawer. This would be due to wear throughout centuries of opening and closing the drawers
Four drawers sit upon one another, believed to be the original oak drawer bottoms still present. Almost oversized bracket feet give the drawers a sense of authority whilst sitting within a room
