A charming early 20th-century satinwood wardrobe of unusually petite proportions, its size and scale making it particularly well suited as a child’s wardrobe or for a smaller bedroom.
The pale satinwood has a wonderfully warm, mellow appearance, complemented by attractive carved Art Nouveau-influenced decoration to the upper panels and crest. A tall central mirrored door adds both practicality and elegance, while the broad cornice and gently shaped base give the piece a pleasing architectural presence despite its compact dimensions.
Below, a generous full-width drawer provides useful additional storage and retains its characterful period handles. The restrained carving, simple lines and softly figured timber give the wardrobe a decorative quality without being overly ornate.
A delightful and increasingly difficult-to-find piece of period furniture, combining practical storage with a particularly appealing scale. Originally conceived with smaller proportions in mind, it would make a wonderful child’s wardrobe today, while also being ideal for a guest room, nursery or any interior where a full-sized wardrobe might prove too imposing.
